It is the year 2051. Twenty years ago, the United States, and the world in general, took a turn for the worse. The War in Iraq transformed with sudden violence into the Third World War. The economy of the United States dropped, and a savage drought fell upon the nation, destroying agriculture. Violent hurricanes, a result of the ever-increasing global warming, swept the coasts, wiping out all in their paths. One of the cities most severely affected was New Orleans, Louisiana. Still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, it was decimated. For several years, it remained a place of ghosts as the government, with so much more on their minds, abandoned it.
For almost two decades, the dogs have been the lords of these sun-beaten streets. It was their blood that has spilled onto the worn cement, their tired paws that have trod the beaten ground. They are the kings and this is their kingdom. Now, as humans return, they struggle to maintain their monarchy. However, once a ruler, always a ruler. For now, at least, the canine is still king.
Life isn't easy. There are no leaders or rulers, not really; even the great are overturned, even the immortal must die. It's kill or be killed, hunt or starve. Nobody lives forever, but can you survive at all? Like fire, this life is one of both beauty and pain. As the heat waves dance on the sidewalk and the sun beats on your back, will you sink or will you swim? Will you let the flame consume you or will you rise from the ashes?
Welcome to The Inferno.
